Who is Heather?

It’s me!

Hello, my name is Heather Jude. Passionate about learning, I have completed my Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Communications at Simon Fraser University in 2018, and my Fashion Diploma for Business, Creative Arts & Design at John Casablancas Institute in Gastown. From my experience as a Senior designer at Tonic Active, I have expanded my business into freelancing in the industry.

My passion for designing and styling derives from my many years as a competitive Irish Dancer. I always knew a good competition from a bad one just by the way my hair curled that day and my dress fell. I strive to bring the drive I developed training for National and World Championships to everything I do in life - with a bit of bling.

Heather, is a wildflower that grows abundantly. Jude, is most commonly known from the Beatles hit, “Hey, Jude” which states you should always “take a sad song and make it better”. Together, my name represents who I am and strive to be as a professional. I value learning new skills and keeping a positive attitude in all I do. I believe there is nowhere a wildflower can’t grow. From this mindset, I continue to set new goals and meet them in my adventures as a fashion professional.

My Story

My fashion journey began at a young age, always picking out my own outfits and walking around the livingroom like it was Paris fashion week. I was determined to combine as many patterns and textures as I could get away with, and never forgot my sunglasses!

As I went through school I was always drawn to the arts. I loved drawing, painting, carpentry and of course - sewing. I never really saw it as a viable career path so I always kept it as a hobby. As I entered Simon Fraser University I found myself giving up time to study to make new creations and sell them online. During my first year, I founded a jewelry company and devoted my time to marketing it to all my fellow classmates. I was also featured in Simon Fraser’s fashion week where I was asked to showcase a collection of fashion pieces I had made  throughout the year. When I graduated from SFU in 2018, I graduated with a BA in Communications with many, many random courses taken in photo editing, graphic design and any other program I could find that would allow me to be creative.

Upon graduation, I began working at a newspaper company where I would design and sell their advertisements.  But then- the pandemic hit. I was sent home until the workplace was deemed safe to return. Each day after that I would wake up earlier than I had for work so I could design a new shirt, a new skirt, maybe paint a mural, paint my room, anything that made my heart content. It was then that I decided to open a new business in furniture flipping. As I sanded the items that would come to me to be flipped, I had a lot of time to think. My thoughts often drifted towards the big question: “What do I want to do with my life?”. I had so many intrests and enjoyed trying new things. How would I be able to find a career path that put all my skills and passions together?
A few months into the pandemic, I began tiding up my sewing supplies and fabrics. As a rummaged through my supplies I found an old note from my highschool sewing teacher. I sat there and read it. I had forgotten that she had wrote such nice things about my future (if I chose) in fashion. That she hoped one day I would be able to see for myself how talented I was. It was like a scene from a movie. After that I researched the fashion industry, started watching documentaries and devoted my time to finding a school I would be able to learn and grow.

Now, I aspire to bring my passion for this industry and art into everything I do, whether it’s creating spec sheets or designing a collection.

This is my passion. This is what I want to do with my life.
